Feliz año nuevo

MONDAY: A very happy day. For Hermana Owen's first P-day in the field we went to the mall (I got us very lost on the way). It’s kinda like Narnia. You open the door and walk in BAM. America. BAM air conditioning. They say that this summer is like none they’ve seen, especially strong. Thank you El Nino. My American food betrayed me as I found a very large worm at the end :).

Took a peek at Forever 21 and some stores. I take it grunge is on? Came home. Took a nap. Woke up more tired than I started. Got back to the important stuff.

Life’s an interesting thing.

We stopped in this park to find an article to share in our Noche de Hagar that we didn’t know we were going to give. But it was perfect because we found a miracle of a contact. Well he found us :). More on him in the future hopefully.

Then went to Familia M. for a Noche de Hogar. We brought P. who was very pleased with it all. :)

TUESDAY: Spent the morning in immigrations, first time in seven months that I have been alone. It was the strangest feeling. Had a lesson with a menos activa and 10 cats. I could feel my throat slowly closing up.

WEDNESDAY: A bird pooped on Hna Owen’s head.

Had a lesson with F. She gave me two rolls of TP. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any better.

Had a Noche de Hagar with a nice family which left us literally running home. The people here are something special. Saw a flock of parrots flying over us, definitely not in Kansas anymore. Pretty sure all of Lima has seen my bum. It’s been incredibly hot, but in the afternoon it gets crazy windy. Wind + skirt = embarrassing.

THURSDAY: A good day as well. We were running all over the place. Had a really nice conversation at lunch with Hna M. (She’s our pensionista.) Their family has been like a second family to me. Had another lesson with P. As hard as it is to understand her at times, I’ve really seen a change in her over the past few weeks. El vivir el evanelio nos hace feliz [living the gospel makes us happy].

We had a nice lesson with E. She’s one of those people you meet and you’re just like, “Woah, you’re ready.” Had a dream in Spanish (at least I think I did.) I was teaching a lesson. I’ve finally made it.

And I forgot the most important part of Tuesday. I ordered pizza over the phone in Spanish. Mission accomplished! Spanish is mastered. Jk

FRIDAY: Stressful day. Had mondongo [tripe] again at lunch. Didn’t tell Hna Owen what it was ‘til after. She wanted to kill me. Not sure I’ll ever get used to eating that.

Had an activity with the ward. Besides the ward mission leader and us four missionaries, one hermana showed up. P. My word. But she loved it somehow so I guess it’s a success.

SATURDAY: Had a lunch with this Hermana who served a mission about 30 years ago here in Peru. At that time there were only two missions and she served with her brother including he was her zone leader. Craaazy. Can’t imagine.

Had a little of this and that. Frankly I can’t remember.

I got engaged. I even have a ring to prove it. There’s a story for 18 months from now. I really didn’t know what to do or say, so I accepted. And apparently the ring is the Holy Ghost too or something. It’s got a cross in it and a catholic prayer. I’m going to wear it next to my CTR ring.

SUNDAY: Thanks Mom for making me take piano lessons. There, I said it.

Had lunch with the bishop’s family, ate s’mores if you can believe it. :)

Had a lesson with Hna V. We all ended up in tears. Talked about mothers. And just like that another week gone.

I’m not really sure how to describe this week. It had its ups and downs. Its miracles and its disappointments. You win some. You lose some. But I’m getting to the point where I don’t remember anything. Everything is starting to feel the same. But every day I’m grateful for the wonderful people at home cheering me on. Thank you for your love and support.

Love,

Hermana Anderson

“All of Enos”

“And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.” Enos 1:4

In one word: PRAY

In two words: It’s amazing
