Hey. I was just here...
Monday: Historic day. I think I finally found my sugar limit…the great thing about a mission is that you get to have a birthday every month! The great thing about living with another companionship is that you get to celebrate four birthdays a month! Had a noche de hogar con A. y su abuejo [Had a family home evening with A. and her grandpa.] Sorry about the Spanish. They keep me going.
Tuesday: Can’t really remember. Sorry. Some companionship strugs, ain’t nothin’ I can’t handle.
Wednesday: Multizonas [groups of missionaries meeting together for instruction] – 6 very long hours but good, definitely motivated me. AND I FINALLY GOT LETTERS! I’m sorry I don’t have anything exciting or interesting to say. SOON! In other news I have officially exercised every day of the week! Not consecutively of course, but every day, so there’s that. Perhaps my companion will stop calling me fat or telling members how I am going to get fat. Exercise usually consists of about 5 minutes of Insanity (the workout program) until my companion gets hurt and then the cool down. Please excuse my sass J I know that 70% of this work depends on your attitude (I also know that 84% of statistics are made up on the spot). I’m a work in progress. Thank goodness. FUN FACT! Did you know they sell toast here? And I don’t mean –say bread 3 times fast, what you do put in a toaster – toast. I mean 100% pre-toasted bread. I’m not sure who wouldn’t want a pack of toast, saves ya a good 2 minutes of life! America get on this!
Thursday: Just about every appointment fell through. Again. And so in these hours where we wander from house to house without anyone to teach I take the opportunity to teach myself or rather try and learn what the Lord is trying to teach me.
Friday: We finally had a lesson with J. (A.’s grandmother). She’s very quiet and so, so sweet. She can’t read. And she’s always so excited to see us. Yesterday we invited her to be baptized the 10th of October and she was like, “Oh, no. I can’t be ready in time. I need to prepare. I pray for 15 minutes a day and I look at the scriptures (because she can’t read) but it’s not enough. Maybe in a year.” We told her that there’s a way to get the scriptures on CD so that she can listen to them. Oh my word, you should have seen her face. It lit up with this half toothed smile and she clapped her hands together with this little squeal of glee. Then she told us, “Yes I can be baptized that day now I can prepare.” It’s the little moments like this that keep me going when I’ve had practically no lessons in the week, when we’ve been wandering for hours or whatever the heck else. Seeing the hope in people’s eyes helps me make it one more day. The Lord answers prayers people. I know. He answers mine every day.
There was this Primary [children ages 3-11] activity in the church. Very interesting. They were listening to the English station, so of course no one understood it but me…to give you an idea – Akon, Eminem and Snoop Dog were some of the featured artists. Just a little distracting :)
Saturday: We had an activity with the ward. Mom, you would have had a heart attack. I have never seen anything so unorganized. The ward hardly works together. It’s all very unorganized. Perhaps I should leave it at that. (There wasn’t even a tablecloth! And ‘no’ this isn’t a culture thing.) Our ward is interesting. Being a missionary is a strange experience.
Sunday: The things you see on a daily basis just break your heart. The world is just so darn different. It really makes you appreciate what you have.
This week’s been pretty normal. I’m starting to feel a little more comfortable. I still have my moments. I’m almost half way done with training and I’m still not fluent. So you tell me what’s up with that.
Some things I’ve learned:
How to put rice down like nobody’s business
That BYU has competition. I’ve never seen so much PDA in my life. There are couples everywhere from like 10 to 80
Calories don’t count on P-days, half birthdays, quarter birthdays, days when you commit someone to baptism and when you don’t get your package in the mail.
So here it is.I guess I’m kinda grateful for this experience.Yeah it’s hard as heck and I don’t know what I’m doing 90% of the time, but it’s been an incredible opportunity to grow, and I’m not just talking in my waist band.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made a fool out of myself but it just keeps me laughing.I guess serving a mission is when every part of you hurts (feet, head, legs, stomach, back) and you’re still happy.
I love you all And miss you.
Sorry I didn’t have much interesting stuff to share this week.
The gospel is verdadero [true].Jose Smith fue el profeta de la restauracion JesuCristo vive y al es mi Salvador. Y [Joseph Smith was the prophet of the restoration.Jesus Christ lives and is my Savior.] God answers our prayers through scripture study. So go do it! See ya in 16!
Love,
